AUSTIN, Texas-- Senior Kate Dwelley finished her career as a national runner-up in the 100 free, as Stanford finished in fourth place at the NCAA Championships.

Cal won the national title with 424 points, followed by Georgia (394.5), USC (351), Stanford (272) and Arizona (266). As a whole, the Pac-10-- whose conference championship was won by Stanford, won eight of 21 events.

Fellow seniors Liz Smith and Meg Hostage finished off their careers in the top-10. Liz Smith was the consolation winner in the 200 breast-- her fouth trip to the NCAA top-16 in the event, and Meg Hostage was an All-American in all three of her events, finishing seventh in the platform.

Dwelley, the 23-time All-American and Bay Area native was a runner-up in the 100 free with a time of 47.78, finishing behind two-time 2011 NCAA freestyle champion Arianna Vanderwpool-Wallace of Auburn, who swam 47.07. Dwelly finished in the top-16 seven times over the last three days, including a fifth place finish as the anchor leg of the 400 free relay in the final event.

Smith, after finishing ninth in the prelims with a time of 2:10.17, beat the consolation field by over a second, winning with a time of 2:08.76, also ninth. The senior finished her career as a four-time All-American in 200 breast and as a 13-time All-American overall.

Hostage reached her second A Final and earned her third top-16 finish in 2011, scoring 232.65 for seventh. She was third in the prelims in her final morning dive of her career, with a score of 305.30. Hostage likley would have been higher if not for hitting the bottom of the platform with her feet during her fourth dive. Earlier this week, she finished third in the one-meter and 13th in the three-meter.

NOTES: Dwelley finished her career as a 23-time All-American, the 21st Stanford swimmer to have at least 20 top-16 finishes in a career. She finishes eighth all-time on the career charts... Smith earned four top-16 finishes in 2011 and finished as a 13-time All-American... Sam Woodward will enter her senior season as a 17-time All-American, while Betsy Webb will be a 12-time All-American Woodward scored six top-16 finishes, Webb had four.... in Lea Maurer's six season, Stanford has never finished lower than fifth.... Dwelley was a runner-up in the 100 free, Maya DiRado was a runner-up in the 200 IM and Hostage was third in the one-meter and Maya DiRado was third in the 400 IM as Stanford's top finishes at NCAAs.
