TUCSON, Ariz.-- The top-ranked Stanford women (5-0) dominated on the first leg of its trip to the desert, winning 12 of 14 swim events at No. 7-ranked Arizona (6-2) and scoring a 178-114 dual win in the process.
Senior Liz Smith led the way for the Cardinal, sweeping both breaststrokes, before taking home the top time in the 400 individual medley to close out the individual events. Smith won the 100-yard event with a time of 1:02.28 and then went onto win the 200-yard event with a mark of 2:12.68. In the 400 IM, Smith posted a time of 4:16.43.
Smith also was a part of the winning 400 yard medley relay team that posted a time of 3:38.74 to begin the meet.
Showing the Cardinal's dominance on the day, Stanford finished 1-2 in seven events, won 12 of 16 events overall and finished with the second-fastest time in the 1000 free and 200 free relay.
Senior Kate Dwelley finished in the top-three in all three freestyles, winning the 100 (49.44) and 200 (1:46.91) events, before a runner-up finish in the 50 free (22.78) to teammate Sam Woodward (22.70).
Freshman Andie Taylor picked up victories in the 200 fly (1:58.26) and 500 free (4:46.76) and was second to Dwelley in the 200 free, 14 tenths slower than her veteran teammate (1:47.05).
In diving, Meg Hostage was second in the one-meter (276.45) and third in the three-meter (274.28).
Stanford concludes its trip through the Grand Canyon State with a trip to Arizona State on Saturday.
