The 2018 season is the second for Abe Munayer as Stanford’s sports performance coach. Munayer assists the sports performance staff in the day-to-day duties surrounding the football program.
Before coming to The Farm, he spent three seasons at Cal as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.
At Cal, he was the head strength and conditioning coach for the men’s rowing, women’s gymnastics and men’s gymnastics programs. He assisted men’s rowing to a Pac-12 title in 2016 and women’s gymnastics to an appearance in the NCAA Championships for the second time in school history, earning second place in the NCAA Alabama Regional. Munayer also coached three Olympic qualifiers for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
Prior to his stop at Cal, Munayer worked with the Cleveland Browns during their 2014 training camp, earning the Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship for his efforts while assisting the strength and conditioning staff.
Among his many qualifications, he is both a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) and Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (CSCCa), and a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach (USA Weightlifting).
In 2015, Munayer published a journal article as a co-author from research data to the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research: “Barbell Deadlift Training Increases the Rate of Torque Development and Vertical Jump Performance in Novices.”
Prior to coming to Cal, Munayer worked with the Cleveland Browns during their 2014 training camp, earning the Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship for his efforts while assisting the strength and conditioning staff.
Munayer interned at Stanford in 2014, when he assisted the football and wrestling programs. He also interned at Texas Tech as a graduate teaching and research assistant and strength and conditioning intern. He assisted the Red Raiders football program to the 2013 Holiday Bowl Championship.
Munayer previously worked as a strength and conditioning coach and a personal trainer at Old School Strength in Petaluma, California.
Since 2011, Munayer has actively competed and trained athletes in the American Powerlifting Association.
Munayer earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Sonoma State in 2012, and his master’s degree in exercise and sport science from Texas Tech in 2013, earning a 4.0 grade-point average.
