Toure Carter joined the Stanford coaching staff as a defensive assistant in 2016, and the 2018 season is his third on The Farm.
Carter brought more than 10 years of coaching experience to The Farm. He served as the defensive and special teams coordinator at The King's Academy (Calif.), helping lead the Knights to a division title in 2014 and also served as the athletic academic liaison for college prospects.
Prior to that stint, Carter was the secondary coach and assistant head coach at West Valley College in 2013, and served as head coach at Mountain View High School (Calif.) for two seasons (2011-12). Carter led Mountain View to a playoff berth and received 2011 Coach of the Year honors from the Palo Alto Daily News. He spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach with Los Altos High School (Calif.), overseeing the defensive backs, wide receivers, special teams, and strength and conditioning.
Carter played seven seasons in the Arena Football League (2004-10) as a defensive back and wide receiver. He spent time with the San Jose Saber Cats, Utah Blaze, Austin Wranglers and Colorado Crush. Carter made three playoff appearances, played in two championship games, and won the Arena Bowl title with the Crush in 2005.
A native of Cleveland, Carter was a Division II All-American at Ashland (Ohio). Carter set a school record and tied a national mark with four interceptions in one game. He earned a degree in electronic media production with a minor in business marketing. He was inducted into Ashland's hall of fame in 2014.
Carter attended James Ford Rhodes High School (Ohio). He was a district champion in the high jump and long jump, and was a member of the school-record breaking 4x100-meter relay (41.93). Carter lettered four years in football, basketball and track.
Carter is married to ShoShana Carter and the couple has one daughter, Lailah.
