STANFORD, Calif. – Despite out hitting the Lopes, No. 11 Stanford fell in five sets to No. 13 Grand Canyon, 22-25, 25-20, 25-15, 18-25, 14-16, Thursday, in Maples Pavilion.
Stanford (11-13, 4-7 MPSF) hit .302 as a team and totaled 50 kills, 26 digs, 9.0 blocks and nine aces. Grand Canyon (16-9, 5-6 MPSF) turned in a .290 clip as a team to go with 50 kills, 28 digs, 12.5 blocks and eight aces.
Outside hitter Theo Snoey, the reigning AVCA Player of the Week, led the Cardinal with 15 kills on .290 hitting, four digs, two blocks and an ace. Opposite Moses Wagner added 12 kills, a match-high seven digs, four blocks and an ace.
Setter Theoren Brouillette dished out 43 assists to go with three digs, three blocks, two aces and a kill. Freshman libero Evan Porter finished with five digs and two assists.
Sophomore Nate Clinton recorded eight kills, three digs and two blocks. The outside hitter also registered a career-high four aces – all coming in succession in the third set.
Freshman Kaumana Carreira hit .727 (8-0-11) and had four blocks and a dig. His attack percentage ties for the best by a Cardinal player this season (minimum 10 attempts). Freshman Reed Wainwright chipped in with six kills on .455 hitting, three blocks and a dig.
Junior Ryan DuRoss came off the bench as a serving sub in all five sets, notching an ace and a dig.
Grand Canyon was led by outside hitter Trent Moser who had a match-high 17 kills on a .355 attack percentage, three aces, four digs and three blocks.
Stanford and Grand Canyon meet again on Friday at 6 p.m. in Maples Pavilion in the regular-season finale for both teams.
