SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Maxime Raynaud of the Stanford men’s basketball team continues to earn national praise, as the big man from Paris was selected as a top-five finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award.
The most productive big man in the country, Raynaud ranks 15th nationally in scoring and fifth in rebounds at 20.2 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. He stands second in the ACC in scoring and first in rebounding. The Paris native currently ranks 14th in program history in scoring and fifth all-time in rebounding as one of four players in Stanford history to reach at least 1,500 career points and 900 career rebounds. He is 29 rebounds away from tying the program’s single-season record, currently held by Adam Keefe (1991-92).
Raynaud leads the nation with 22 double-doubles. His 21st double-double, coming against Boston College on Feb. 26, set a new Stanford single-season record, passing Adam Keefe (20, 1991-92). Raynaud is just the fifth major conference player to have at least 22 double-doubles in a season over the past five years, joining Zach Edey (Purdue, 2x), Joel Soriano (St. John's), Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky, 2x) and Armando Bacot (North Carolina).
A mainstay on the national landscape, Raynaud has earned selections to the Naismith Trophy midseason team, Wooden Award late midseason top-20, the top-10 for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year award as well as the Oscar Robertson Trophy watch list for national player of the year. He was also named the Skip Prosser Award recipient as the ACC’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Raynaud is the only ACC player honored as a finalist, and he would become the first Stanford player to win one of the Basketball Hall of Fame’s starting five awards.
