LOS CABOS, Mexico — Nathan Wang’s even afternoon highlighted a successful day on the links for the Stanford men’s golf team as it completed second round action at the Cabo Collegiate on Monday. Through 36 holes Stanford sits in a tie for sixth overall at 10-over.
Wang, who entered the day at 4-over having shot a 75 on Sunday, was Stanford’s best golfer on the second day to keep the Card in contention for a top-five team finish. Wang hit the turn at a solid 1-under for the day before a double-bogey on hole 11 set him back. However, Wang clawed back to even with a string of three birdies from holes 14-17 to finish the day at even-par. Stanford’s leader through two rounds, Jay Leng, had a strong finish to the day after a tough front nine as Leng rattled off three birdies after the turn to finish the afternoon 3-over for the round and 1-over for tournament, sitting in a tie for 18th.
TK Chantananuwat replicated his card from round one, turning in a 1-over, 72, to place in a tie for 22nd entering the final day at a respectable 2-over. Chantananuwat fired off four birdies during the round including a birdie on a par-5 hole one to start the day strong. Finishing behind Chantananuwat in a tie for 25th after the second round is Ethan Gao whose 2-over performance on day two was accentuated with a birdie on his final hole of the afternoon.
Kush Arora had a strong bounceback from a tough first round, finishing the second day with a 4-over, 75. Arora started his afternoon at 2-under through five holes before some late trouble inflated the card as he currently sits inside the top 70 in a tie for 67th. Independently, Sean-Karl Dobson had a stronger round two than the previous day, firing off a card of 76 to place in a tie for 67th heading into the third round.
