LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 13 Cardinal improved to 24-3 on the season today, taking down Kentucky 9-1 on the road for a 12th-straight win. Kylie Chung and Zoe Prystajko combined to allow just one run on one hit in the dominant showing, striking out seven.
The Cardinal jumped on Kentucky early, scoring four runs on five hits in the top of the first to go ahead. Jade Berry did most of the damage with a two-run single, with Allie Clements and Joie Economides joining her with an RBI each.
Kylie Chung followed it up with a shutdown inning in the bottom of the frame, with a popout and a double play to face the minimum after a leadoff walk.
Kentucky broke up the shutout bid in the bottom of the fourth, scoring once to make it a 4-1 game. Chung exited after 3.1 innings of work, allowing just the one run on one hit with three strikeouts and four walks.
Stanford added three more in the fifth, starting with an RBI fielder’s choice from Caelan Koch. Camryn Carmouche, pinch hitting for Sydney Boulaphinh, drove in another for her first RBI of the season to make it 6-1. Then a hard-hit ball from Emily Jones caused an error and brought home another run to push it to 7-1.
Koch added another hitless RBI in the sixth, bringing in a run on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-1.
In the top of the seventh, Taryn Kern ripped her eighth home run of the season over the right-field fence to make it a 9-1 game. Kern’s home run tied her with Joie Economides for the team lead, and passed her season total from all of last season.
Zoe Prystajko entered in the fourth inning, closing out the game with 3.2 perfect innings of relief. The freshman struck out four in the appearance.
The Cardinal returns to ACC play on Friday at No. 16 Virginia Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. PT, and can be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
