CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 8 Stanford men’s tennis suffered its first setback in the last six games, falling at No. 6 Virginia, 4-2. The Cardinal drops to 13-5 this season and 5-3 in the ACC.
Virginia took the doubles point with wins on courts two and three to take an early lead in the match, and led by two, 2-0, after a singles win on court five. Nico Godsick cut the deficit in half on court six with a straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-4, and Henry von der Schulenburg leveled the score at 2-2 with a three-set victory on court four, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. The win was von der Schulenburg’s team-leading 13th of the season while Godsick tallied his 10th in singles play.
Kyle Kang forced a third set with a 7-5 tiebreak win in his second set on court one, but Virginia earned three-set wins on courts two and three to secure a 4-2 win in the match.
