NANJING, China – Stanford alum Ky Robinson ’24 placed third in the men’s 3,000 meters at the World Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.
Robinson, a two-time NCAA champion and 13-time All-American at Stanford, ran 7:47.09 on the 200-meter track at the Sports Training Center. Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen won in 7:46.09 and Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi took the silver in 7:46.25.
This is the fourth time Robinson has represented the Australian senior national team, following the 2022 World Outdoor Championships, 2022 Commonwealth Games, and 2023 World Cross Country Championships.
Robinson became the first Stanford male to medal at World Indoors since David Strang ’91 of Great Britain won silver in the 1,500 in Toronto, Canada, in 1993. The only other was Jeff Atkinson ’85 of the U.S., who was third in the 1,500 at the 1989 meet in Budapest, Hungary.
This indoor season, Robinson ran an Australian indoor 3,000 record 7:30.38 at the Millrose Games in New York on February 8, and his personal 5,000 best of 13:02.34 in Boston on March 2.
At the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Robinson swept the long-distance events, winning the 5,000 and 10,000 in Austin, Texas.
Also competing at World Indoors is multi-event athlete Harrison Williams ’18 of the U.S. Williams, a 2024 Olympian in the decathlon, is competing in the seven-event heptathlon.
