Historic Night for Huske

Torri Huske becomes third-fastest woman in 200 IM history to win NCAA title

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - No. 3 Stanford added another national title on day two of the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, as Torri Huske topped a loaded 200 IM field to give the Cardinal its first individual winner of the weekend.

A new career-high for the Stanford record holder, Huske clocked a 1:49.87 to become just the third woman ever to swim under 1:50.00 in the 200 IM. The win is the first individual NCAA title in Huske’s decorated career, adding to her 800 free relay title in 2022.

Caroline Bricker (1:52.01) and Lucy Bell (1:52.47) both clock new career-highs of their own to finish 5th and 6th, while Emily Thompson (1:54.89) and Lillie Nordmann (1:55.37) finish 13th and 15th to make it five Cardinal All-Americans in the event.

The evening session began with the 500 free, where Aurora Roghair posted a 4:33.90 to finish as the national runner-up in the event and tie her best career individual finish. It is the second different individual event that Roghair has finished as the national runner-up, earning second place in the 1650 free last season. Natalie Mannion also earned All-America honors, finishing 15th with a 4:40.80.

The Cardinal added another relay podium finish in the 200 free relay, as Huske, Thomas, Johnson, and Tang finished third with a time of 1:25.69 to become the second-fastest group in school history in the event.

Stanford also saw three competitors swim in the 50 free prelims, where Lucy Thomas posted the Cardinal’s best finish in the event with a 22.15 for 33rd place. Amy Tang (22.16) and Gigi Johnson (22.17) also posted season-bests in the morning session, finishing 34th and 36th, respectively.

Action at the diving boards kicked off with the 1-meter dive where Emilie Moore led the Cardinal with an 18th-place finish to just narrowly miss the consolation final. Moore earned a six-dive score of 277.40 for Stanford’s top score of the prelims, while Lauren Burch finished 28th with a 261.70 score.

After day two, Stanford sits second in the team standings with 178 points, 47 points behind leader Virginia.

Day three of competition resumes tomorrow with the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, 3-meter dive, and 400 medley relay. Action starts at 10 a.m. PT with prelims, followed by a 6 p.m. PT finals session on ESPN+
