PHILADELPHIA - Redshirt sophomore Hunter Garvin advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships on Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center.
Stanford has had at least one NCAA quarterfinalist in every national tournament since 2016. The Cardinal sits in a tie for 22nd place with 8.5 points after day one in Philadelphia.
Garvin notched a pair of wins to reach the quarterfinals for the first time in his career. He will meet No. 2 seed Peyton Hall of West Virginia on Friday morning.
The returning All-American defeated No. 26 seed Paddy Gallagher of Ohio State, 7-2, in the opening round. He turned in a 14-4 major decision over No. 10 seed Andrew Sparks of Minnesota in the Round of 16.
In addition to Garvin, six Cardinal remain alive in the consolation brackets. Going 1-1 on the day were Tyler Knox (133), Jason Miranda (141), Jaden Abas (149), Lorenzo Norman (174), Nick Stemmet (197) and Peter Ming (285).
