BLACKSBURG, Va. – No. 28 Stanford won its first ACC road dual with a 4-2 victory at No. 54 Virginia Tech on Friday.
Chidimma Okpara clinched at No. 5 singles for the Cardinal (11-3, 4-1 ACC) with a 7-6 (1), 6-2 result over Laima Frosch. It’s Okpara’s second clincher in 2025, the other coming on Feb. 26 against Saint Mary’s. Okpara also teamed with Morgan Shaffer at No. 3 doubles to clinch that point for Stanford 6-3. The pair is an unbeaten 3-0 in duals this spring.
Caroline Driscoll, who has settled into the No. 4 spot in Stanford’s lineup, has been nearly automatic this season. A 6-3, 6-0 winner on Friday, the junior transfer is 8-1 in duals.
Following Driscoll’s quick win, the Hokies tied up the match with wins at Nos. 3 and 6. Valencia Xu was forced to retire at No. 3 due to injury.
Valerie Glozman was a winner at No. 2 over Tara Gorinsek 6-1, 7-6 (4) before Okpara’s clincher. Glozman moves to 24-4 in her debut season, including 11-2 in duals, and 14-0 against unranked opponents.
Stanford is back in action at No. 2 Virginia on Sunday, March 23 at 9 a.m. PT.
