Soma Named Final 2025 ACC Gymnastics Freshman of the Week

The Belmont, Calif. native tabbed her second career bars title at the Haas Quad Meet #2 with a collegiate-best matching 9.950

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Stanford women’s gymnastics first-year athlete Ui Soma was named the final 2025 ACC Gymnastics Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

The Belmont, Calif. native's first career conference weekly honor comes off stellar performances in two meets-- vs. No. 18 Denver (March 14) and at Haas Quad #2 (March 16). She earned a share of the bars title at the latter meet with a career-best matching 9.950, just the second event title of her career. She has hit eight straight bars routines scoring at least a 9.825 and is the only conference freshman to earn a score of 9.950 on the apparatus throughout the season.

Soma's efforts against both No. 18 Denver and No. 6 California, Arizona State and San Jose State included scores of 9.800 on vault (both meets), 9.850 on bars (vs. No 18 Denver) and her title-winning 9.950 score on bars (at Haas Quad Meet #2). The All-ACC Gymnastics Team member sits as the top-ranked first-year conference gymnast on the event through 11 weeks of competition.

Stanford takes on its first-ever trip to the ACC Championships this week, its final chance to improve its NQS before Selection Monday (March 24). The Cardinal will compete in the evening session of the ACC Championships on March 22, scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and televised by the ACC Network.
