STANFORD, Calif. - Eight Cardinal are headed to Philadelphia for the NCAA Championships, held March 20-22 at the Wells Fargo Center.
ACC champion Hunter Garvin is the highest-seeded Cardinal, earning the No. 7 seed in the 165-pound bracket. The returning All-American is 19-6 on the season and opens the tournament against No. 26 seed Paddy Gallagher of Ohio State (17-8).
Making his NCAA Championships debut is redshirt freshman Tyler Knox (24-6), who received the No. 13 seed at 133 pounds. He will meet the No. 20 seed Blake Boarman of Chattanooga (21-6) in the opening round.
Another redshirt freshman making his NCAA Championships debut is Lorenzo Norman (20-4). The No. 16 seed at 174 pounds, he will face No. 17 seed Sergio Desiante of Chattanooga (21-2) in the first round.
Five-time NCAA qualifier Jaden Abas (21-10), a 2021 All-American, earned the No. 17 seed at 149 pounds and will begin the tournament against No. 16 seed Trae McDaniel of Army (26-8).
The ACC runner-up at 197 pounds, Nick Stemmet (21-9) is the No. 17 seed. Making his fourth appearance at the NCAA Championships, he will wrestle No. 16 seed Evan Bates of Northwestern (19-10) in the first round.
Jason Miranda (21-7) will make his NCAA Championships debut as the No. 24 seed at 141 pounds. The fifth year will take on No. 9 seed Jacob Frost of Iowa State (30-7) in the opening round.
Another fifth year qualifying for his first NCAA Championships is Peter Ming (14-10). The No. 26 seed at heavyweight, he will wrestle No. 7 seed Isaac Trumble of NC State (17-5) in the first round in Philadelphia.
True freshman Grigor Cholakyan (15-9), the No. 27 seed at 157 pounds, will square off against No. 6 seed Ryder Downey of Northern Iowa (25-4) in his debut at the national tournament.
The Cardinal's eight NCAA qualifiers is one shy of the program high, which was set in 2017. Stanford has qualified at least five wrestlers to the NCAA championships for 12 consecutive seasons - the longest such streak in program history.
