Stanford Loses at Louisville

Four Cardinal score in double figures in 74-65 defeat

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Chloe Clardy led four players in double figures with 16 and Stanford was within four with under two minutes to go, but the Cardinal came up short on the road at Louisville on Sunday afternoon, 74-65.

Mary Ashley Stevenson made her first start at Stanford (11-12, 3-9) and scored a season-high 15 points and Elena Bosgana picked up her fourth career double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high five steals. Tess Heal added 10 points off the bench. Stanford played without its leading scorer and rebounder, Nunu Agara, who missed the game after taking a fall in the first quarter at Notre Dame on Thursday night.

The Cardinal was down by as many as 20 late in the third quarter and 16 entering the fourth, but used a 15-3 run over 3:21 to pull within four, 63-59, when Tess Heal made a layup with 1:58 to go. Stevenson and Heal each had six points during the spurt, which was started with an old-fashioned 3-point play from Courtney Ogden with just over five minutes remaining.

Louisville’s Jayda Curry scored 10 of her team’s final 11 points over the final 118 seconds, including eight points at the line, to hold off Stanford.

Stanford shot 64.7 percent in the fourth quarter (11-of-17) and 45.5 percent for the game. The Cardinal’s nine steals were its most in conference and it outscored Louisville 28-18 in points off turnovers.

The Cardinal returns home to host Syracuse on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. on ACC Network.
