Cardinal Splits Pair with Top-Four Opponents

Stanford topped No. 4 Penn 6-3, fell to No. 3 Princeton 5-4

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 4 Cardinal split a pair of games with No. 4 Penn and No. 3 Princeton this weekend, and tomorrow heads to the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championships.

Stanford took down Penn on Thursday, winning 6-3. The Card’s win was the first over a top-four opponent since 2019, when Stanford topped No. 4 Yale 7-2.

Maeve Baker continued her undefeated run, taking a victory in straight sets on court eight to move to a perfect 6-0. Yuvna Gupta on court six and Valerie Huang on court 10 joined Baker with straight-set wins. The win put Stanford at 5-1 on the season, heading into another top-four matchup on Friday.

The Card came up just short against No. 3 Princeton, falling 5-4. Amelie Hayworth, Miriam Cheng, Gupta and Khushi Kukadia all took home wins. Gupta’s win went the distance, and then some – the five-set battle opened with a 20-18 Princeton win. After trailing two sets to one, Gupta capped the comeback with a 12-10 win in the fifth.

Haworth, Cheng, Gupta, Kukadia and Huang all finished the weekend perfect at 2-0.

Stanford heads to the MASC Championships at 5-2, boasting top-10 wins over No. 8 Cornell, No. 9 Columbia, No. 4 Penn and MASC rival No. 6 Virginia on the season.

The postseason competition kicks off against No. 22 Franklin and Marshall at 6:00 a.m. PT, followed by a duel with No. 10 Drexel at 11:00 a.m. PT.
