WAIMEA, Hawaii — TK Chantananuwat’s career round solidified a strong start for the Stanford men’s golf team as it concluded the first round of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate on Thursday. After one round, the Cardinal sits in 10th at 11-under.
Chantananuwat was the top performer for Stanford, shooting a career-best 6-under 72 to end the day in a tie for ninth. Shooting 1-under after the first nine, Chantananuwat turned in five birdies - including four-straight halfway through the back nine - to usher his way into the top 10.
Sitting just outside the top 50, Ethan Gao and Nathan Wang finished the afternoon 2-under par to claim spots just outside the top 50 golfers. Gao fired off three birdies while Wang started hot with four of his own before two late bogeys on holes 15 and 16 set him back.
Jay Leng turned in an impressive scorecard of 71 after a back and forth round that saw him sink four birdies. Brian Ma had a strong outing as well but a double bogey on hole 10 set him back for a 2-over outing. Logan Kim’s double-bogey on hole three was negated late in the round as an eagle on hole 15, bookended by birdies, helped Kim turn in a 71 on the afternoon.
The Cardinal is back in action tomorrow for the second round of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate, teeing off on holes 8-10 at 9:30 a.m. PT.
