Shutout to Open Home Slate

Matt Scott combined with two relievers to post a 2-0 shutout

STANFORD, Calif. – Junior Matt Scott tossed six scoreless innings, and Ty Uber and Aidan Keenan combined for the final three scoreless, as Stanford (5-0) blanked former Pac-12 foe Washington (2-3) by a score of 2-0 to open the home portion of the 2025 slate on Friday afternoon.

Scott allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out 10 to collect the victory and move to 2-0 on the season. The right-hander faced the minimum through two outs in the fifth inning, allowing a leadoff single in the fourth before the runner was erased on the basepaths. A native of Redding, Conn., Scott tallied a pair of strikeouts in the first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings – including a strikeout looking of Blake Wilson in the fifth to strand the bases loaded.

Uber took the ball from Scott in the seventh, issuing a leadoff walk before retiring the next six straight with three strikeouts. He passed the baton to Keenan in the ninth inning and the sophomore right-hander put the Huskies down in order, including one strikeout, to convert his second save of the year.

The trio of arms got all the run support they would have needed on the first pitch of the bottom of the first as Trevor Haskins deposited a Max Banks offering over the wall in left field for his first homer of the season.

Haskins finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, a homer and two RBIs.

Stanford would add a second run in the fifth as Haskins lofted a sacrifice fly to center field to chase home freshman Charlie Bates. Bates had reached with a triple to start the frame – his second three-bagger of the day as part of a 3-for-3 afternoon with a double and two triples.

Bates has now totaled five hits on the young season, including three triples and a double.

Stanford will look to keep the momentum rolling on Saturday when the two teams clash at 2:05 p.m. Sophomore lefty Christian Lim is slated to get the start against right-hander Reilly McAdams for Washington.
