Stanford opens ACC Championships with victory in the 200 Medley Relay

GREENSBORO, N.C. - No. 3 Stanford enjoyed a successful opening night at the ACC Swimming & Diving Championships on Tuesday night, earning a pair of podium finishes and its first ACC title as one of the conference's newest members.

The ACC Championships began at the diving boards with the 1-meter dive prelims, where Lauren Burch posted the Cardinal’s highest finish with a 12th-place score of 256.80 but narrowly missed out on a trip to the event finals. Emilie Moore (236.10) and Anna Lemkin (233.25) finished 23rd and 24th in the preliminary session, respectively.

Swimming competition kicked off in the evening session where the group of Levenia Sim, Lucy Thomas, Gigi Johnson, and Torri Huske wasted no time giving Stanford its first ACC title, clocking a season-best 1:34.05 to collect the conference crown. The Cardinal was sitting third after the third leg of the relay, but a 20.60 anchor split from Huske helped overcome a nearly half-second deficit to touch the wall first.

Closing things out was the 800 Freestyle Relay, where Huske, Caroline Bricker, Lillie Nordmann, and Kayla Wilson turned in a second-place effort of 6:51.79, finishing behind only Virginia's NCAA record-breaking time of 6:44.13.

After day one, Stanford sits third in the team standings with 138 points. North Carolina holds the team lead with 187 points, followed by Virginia's 153.

The ACC Swimming & Diving Championships resumes tomorrow with the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, and 200 freestyle relay, with prelims taking place at 6:30 a.m. PT and finals beginning at 2:30 p.m. PT.
