LA QUINTA, Calif. — Ethan Gao sprung a solid 1-under outing as the Stanford men’s golf team wrapped up the second round of competition at The Prestige on Tuesday. After 36 holes, the Cardinal sits in a tie for 11th while two golfers sit in contention for top-20 finishes.
Gao finished as the team leader in round two, fighting off a 1-over scorecard through the first nine to finish 1-under, thanks to two birdies on his final three holes of the day. Gao currently sits in a tie for 42nd at 1-over. Nathan Wang had a strong start to the afternoon, earning two birdies on his first nine to head into the turn at 1-under. However, a bogey on hole seven halted a chance to go under par for a consecutive day as Wang now sits just outside the top-20 at 1-under heading into the final round.
Jay Leng and TK Chantananuwat both had solid rounds on Tuesday, but some trip ups on the final nine pushed both golfers over par. Leng, who grabbed three birdies through nine, finished with a birdie to grab a 2-over, 73, capping the day on a high note after some trouble from holes two through six. Chantananuwat, who entered the day at even-par, rattled off three birdies through the round including one on his final hole of the afternoon to enter the final day at 3-over.
Kush Arora clawed back on his back-nine, grabbing two birdies after a 5-over first nine saw him drop down the board. Arora grabbed a birdie on hole three before turning in another birdie on a par-5 hole eight to finish the round at 4-over and head into the final day at 3-over through two rounds.
Stanford is back on the links for round three tomorrow morning with Kush Arora teeing off from hole 10 at 7:40 a.m.
