DALLAS – Reaching its first ITA National Indoor Team Championships semifinal since 2018, No. 11 Stanford men’s tennis dropped a bout to No. 1 TCU, 4-0, at Altec Tennis Complex. Stanford moves to 8-2 on the season with the result.
Samir Banerjee and Alex Razeghi claimed a victory in doubles on court two, 7-5, but TCU claimed a hard-fought doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The doubles matches included only two break point wins, while the tiebreaker on court three ended 9-7.
The Cardinal looked to rally in singles, with Henry von der Schulenburg and Kyle Kang winning one set apiece, but the Horned Frogs scored wins on courts two, five and six to advance to the championship match.
The semifinals appearance was the first for the Cardinal since reaching the same round in 2018, while the program was denied a chance to play for its first championship since 2002.
Stanford returns to campus on Sunday, Feb. 23 to face UC Irvine in the first match at the newly constructed Taube Pavilion at Arrillaga Tennis Center. The first serves are set for 1 p.m.
