DURHAM, N.C. – Stanford men’s basketball capped its road trip with a loss at No. 3/5 Duke, 106-70, at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Cardinal drops to 16-10 this season and 8-7 in the ACC.
Maxime Raynaud led the Cardinal with 19 points and seven rebounds, moving into 18th place on Stanford’s all-time scoring list. The Paris native passes Ron Tomsic ’55, Brian Welch ’82 and Reid Travis ’18 on the night. Oziyah Sellers scored 11 points while Donavin Young scored a career-best 10. Ryan Agarwal and Benny Gealer scored nine points apiece, with Gealer dishing a team-leading five assists.
Stanford made 12 3-pointers, shooting 41.4 percent as a team from beyond the arc. The Cardinal grabbed 13 offensive rebounds and scored 13 second chance points.
Duke (22-3, 14-1 ACC) scored the first six points of the game, but Stanford battled back to tie the score, 13-13, after two triples from Raynaud and seven points from Sellers. The Blue Devils tallied an 18-4 run in the half to take control, and despite Raynaud scoring Stanford’s final 12 points of the period, Duke led at the half, 49-34.
The Cardinal could not get the deficit to single digits in the second half. Gealer scored all nine of his points in the second frame, making three 3-pointers, but the Blue Devils ran away with the victory.
Stanford drops to 2-2 all-time agianst Duke, and moves to 3-4 in its last seven matchups with AP top-five teams.
Stanford returns home to face rival California on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. The action will air on ESPN2.
