NORMAN, Okla. – No. 18 Stanford men’s tennis opened ITA Kickoff Weekend on a winning note, shutting out Oregon, 4-0, at Headington Family Tennis Center on Oklahoma’s campus. Stanford improves to 2-1 this season with the win, and 38-5 in the all-time series against the Ducks.
Stanford got off to a strong start, taking the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Max Basing and Henry von der Schulenburg opened with a 6-3 win in the third position, while Nathan Barki and Alex Razeghi clinched the early lead on court two, 7-5.
The Cardinal carried its momentum into singles play, taking five first sets and cruising to a 4-0 win. Samir Banerjee doubled the advantage with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court one, while Basing picked up a ranked win on court two moments later, 6-2, 6-2, to extend the lead to 3-0. Razeghi clinched the match for the first time in his career, taking the victory on court six, 6-4, 6-1.
Stanford returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. PT against the winner of Oklahoma and Tulsa. The winner of Sunday’s match will qualify for the ITA Indoor National Championships.
