STANFORD, Calif. – No. 17 Stanford men’s tennis opened the spring slate on a high note, downing Bay Area foe Saint Mary’s in shutout fashion, 7-0. The Cardinal won its spring opener for the 17th straight season, and it improves to 13-0 all-time against the Gaels.
The Cardinal had a dominant showing in doubles, dropping just two combined points over three matches. The pairs of Nathan Barki and Alex Razeghi and Max Basing and Henry von der Schulenburg each posted 6-0 victories while the duo of Samir Banerjee and Nico Godsick won 6-2 in the top position.
The momentum carried into singles, where Stanford posted six straight-set triumphs. Banerjee gave the Cardinal a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, while Razeghi posted his first collegiate win on court six, 6-4, 6-1, to extend the lead to 3-0. Playing in his first dual match on the Farm, von der Schulenburg clinched the result with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court three.
Basing, Godsick and Rivera closed out the performance with victories on courts two, five and four, respectively.
Stanford returns to action with a 4 p.m. PT battle against No. 2 TCU on Friday, Jan. 17 in Dallas, Texas, on the campus of SMU.
