STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men’s basketball suffered its first home defeat of the 2024-25 campaign, falling late to Cal Poly, 97-90. The Cardinal drops to 6-2 overall this season.
Maxime Raynaud led five Stanford players in double figures with 21 points, marking the second time this season Stanford had five players with 10 or more points (Northern Arizona, Nov. 12). Raynaud eclipsed the 20-point threshold for the sixth straight game, while his double-double streak was snapped at seven contests to open the season.
Jaylen Blakes and Benny Gealer tallied 17 points apiece, while Blakes tied a career high with four steals and Gealer set a new career high with five steals. Blakes also contributed a game-high eight assists. Chisom Okpara tallied 13 points – his highest total in a Stanford uniform – while Oziyah Sellers had 11 and Ryan Agarwal finished with nine.
A high possession game, Stanford led by nine at the half, 43-34, and by as many as 13 in the opening period. Okpara scored six of Stanford’s final 10 points in the period, while Raynaud led all Cardinal players with 12 points in the first half.
Cal Poly (5-4) had a lights-out shooting performance in the second half, going 20-for-28 from the floor with eight threes and 15 free throws. Benny Gealer scored 12 second-half points, including a six-for-six tally from the charity stripe, while Blakes and Raynaud had nine. Stanford led for 33:17 on the evening, but the late run from the Mustangs gave the visitors the win.
