STANFORD, Calif. - Cara Sambeth was named Stanford field hockey's first-ever All-ACC honoree, as the conference announced its postseason awards on Monday morning. Sambeth was selected to the All-ACC second team, as voted on by the league's nine head coaches.
Sambeth enjoyed a career year in 2024 after taking a gap year last season, posting new career bests in goals (6), points (12), shots (26), shots on goal (14), and shot percentage (.231). The Munich, Germany native scored four goals in the team's opening six games to lead Stanford to its program's highest-scoring start to a season since 2020.
The redshirt junior also rose to the occasion in multiple clutch spots for the Cardinal, including a game-winning goal against UC Davis and another score in the regular season finale against California to help secure Stanford's first ACC tournament berth.
On the defensive end, Sambeth led a stout backline to four shutouts on the year, Stanford's most since the 2022 campaign.
The all-conference nomination is Sambeth's third of her career, as she was named an America East second-team selection in both 2021 and 2022. She was also named to the America East All-Tournament team in 2022 and the America East All-Rookie team in 2021.
Stanford opens the ACC tournament on Tuesday at 3 p.m. PT with an opening-round matchup against No. 3 seed Boston College.
