ITHACA, NY – The No. 5 Cardinal opened the 2024-25 season with a dominant 3-0 weekend, taking down two teams ranked in the top 10 in the process.
Stanford opened the season with a strong showing, winning 7-2 over eighth-ranked Cornell. The freshmen showed out in their first collegiate competition with Amelie Haworth, Tiana Parasrampuria and Valerie Huang each winning.
The Cardinal followed it up with a dominant Saturday win over No. 14 Williams, winning 7-2 with all seven victories coming in three sets. Freshman Riya Navani picked up her first collegiate win, taking a three-set victory on the No. 1 court.
The 2-0 start was the first time Stanford opened a season with consecutive wins since the 2017-18 season.
The dominant start kept going into the Sunday matchup with No. 9 Columbia. Stanford won 8-1, as Madison Ho, Mariana Narvaez Dardon, Maeve Baker, Amelie Haworth, Yuvna Gupta, Tiana Parasrampuria and Valerie Huang all finished a perfect 3-0.
The four freshmen – Navani, Haworrth, Parasrampuria and Huang, combined to go 11-1 over the weekend.
The Cardinal is back in the new year, hosting No. 6 Virginia on January 13 at the Arrillaga Center for Sports & Recreation.
