SANTA ANA PUEBLO, N.M. - Stanford men's golf dropped a pair of opening day matches at the inaugural NB3 Matchplay event at Twin Warriors Golf Club, falling to New Mexico and New Mexico State to finish fourth in the men's standings with 2.5 points.
In the combined standings, which tallies point totals from both the men's and women's programs, the Cardinal slots in second as it looks to compete for the overall event title tomorrow afternoon.
Jay Leng and Nathan Wang each tallied match wins during the morning session, both earning 4-up victories over their Lobos counterparts. Leng notched five birdies in the win, while Wang sunk four through 15 holes of action.
In the second match against New Mexico State, TK Chantananuwat was the lone Cardinal golfer to reach the scoreboard after tying his match against the Aggies' Aidan Thomas.
Action resumes tomorrow afternoon, as Stanford takes on Texas in the final round at 10 a.m. PT. Live coverage of the event will begin on Golf Channel at 1:30 p.m. PT.
