Season Starts in San Diego

First season under head coach Alexander Massialas begins at Western Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. - The Alexander Massialas era on The Farm begins this weekend, with the Cardinal fencing team opening the 2024-25 season at the Western Invitational.

KEY RETURNERS » The Cardinal returns four athletes that qualified for last season's NCAA Championships – Arianna Cao, Sanjay Kasi, Jared Hammerstrom and Second Team All-America selection Crystal Qian.

LAST SEASON » Stanford competed at the Western Invitational last season, hosted by Air Force. The Cardinal women placed 6th with a 6-4 finish, while the men finished seventh behind a 1-3 slate.

STUDENT, OLYMPIAN, COACH » Massialas is back on The Farm in a new position as first-year head coach. Massialas boasts one of the most successful fencing careers in Cardinal history, as a two time individual NCAA Champion in the men's foil (2013, 2015) at Stanford, and a three-time Olympic medalist in four trips to the Olympic Games.

I know they're eager to get out there and show what they've been doing, where they've grown, what they've learned, and that's why they're extremely excited to go down to San Diego and compete this weekend.
