STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford will play at Indiana as part of its 2024-25 nonconference schedule on Sunday, Nov. 17, it was announced on Thursday when the Hoosiers unveiled their out-of-conference slate. A game time and television designation will be released in the coming weeks.
The game will be the Cardinal’s first visit to Bloomington, the alma mater of legendary head coach Tara VanDerveer. Stanford is 3-1 all-time against the Hoosiers, a 73-63 loss on Dec. 21, 1979 at the North Carolina Christmas Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. followed by wins on Nov. 16, 2001 (87-72), Nov. 25, 2021 (69-66), and Nov. 12, 2023 (96-64).
Last season, Stanford made a statement by routing then-No. 9 Indiana in Maples Pavilion, 96-64. It was Stanford’s highest-scoring game against an AP Top 10 opponent since the Cardinal beat then-No. 6 Tennessee on Dec. 20, 2011, 97-80. The 32-point margin of victory was Stanford’s largest against a Top 10 team since beating then-No. 4 Xavier by 37 (89-52) on Dec. 28, 2010.
The game at Indiana is the third released for Stanford’s 2024-25 season, joining a Dec. 5 game at LSU as part of the SEC/ACC Women's Basketball Challenge, and a Dec. 20 game against Ohio State at Chase Center in San Francisco as part of the Invisalign® Bay Area Women’s Classic.
Indiana went 26-6 last season, 15-3 in the Big Ten, made the Sweet 16, and finished ranked No. 12 in the country.
In 2024-25, head coach Kate Paye will lead Stanford into its first year in the ACC with a roster that returns two starters and nine letterwinners to a squad that went 30-6 last season and finished ranked ninth in the country. A two-time WBCA Assistant Coach of the Year during 17 seasons on VanDerveer’s staff, Paye was hired to lead her alma mater on April 16 following VanDerveer’s retirement.
In addition to its nine returners, the Cardinal adds five newcomers, three nationally-ranked freshmen in Shay Ijiwoye (ESPN HoopGurlz No. 53), Harper Peterson (No. 87) and Kennedy Umeh (No. 44), and a pair of transfers in Tess Heal, the 2023 West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year at Santa Clara, and Mary Ashley Stevenson, the 2024 Big Ten Media Freshman of the Year at Purdue.
The remainder of Stanford’s nonconference schedule will be announced following the team’s return from Italy.
