STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford’s Malcolm Moore was selected 30th overall by the defending World Series-champion Texas Rangers in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Sunday.
With Moore’s selection, Stanford has had a first-round pick in each of the last two seasons after Tommy Troy was selected 12th overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023.
Moore wrapped up a sophomore season in 2024 that saw him compile 42 runs scored, eight doubles, 16 homers and 36 RBIs while slugging .553 with a .414 on-base percentage. A 2024 Buster Posey Award semifinalist, Moore was named Pac-12 All-Conference honorable mention for the second time in as many seasons on The Farm. A unanimous Freshman All-American in 2023, Moore was the 2023 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.
Over his two seasons at Stanford, Moore hit .288 with 92 runs scored, 28 doubles, 31 home runs and 99 RBIs while slugging .560 and posting a .399 on-base percentage.
Stanford has now amassed 35 first-round picks in program history, including 20 since 2000. In addition, the Cardinal has now had 13 players drafted in the first two rounds of an MLB Draft since 2011, including at least one in the first two rounds of six of the last seven Drafts dating back to 2018.
A total of 31 players have now been drafted out of Stanford during the David Esquer era, which began with the 2018 season.
The 2024 MLB Draft continues Monday with rounds 3-10. The first selection on day two is set to be made by the Oakland Athletics at 11 a.m. PT.
