STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore NiJaree Canady has been named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, headlining a Cardinal contingent that includes seven All-Conference selections. Canady is joined by sophomore Emily Jones on the first team, with sophomore Taryn Kern landing on the second team. Sophomore Kyra Chan, freshman Ava Gall and senior Aly Kaneshiro all earned third team selections. Gall and freshman Jade Berry both landed on the All-Freshman team, and Canady rounded out the representatives with a spot on the All-Defensive team
So. NiJaree Canady | Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-Conference, All-Defensive Team
Fresh off her eye-catching freshman campaign, NiJaree Canady becomes the first member of the Cardinal to be named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year after a dominant season in the circle. The ace led the nation in ERA at 0.53, and finished atop the conference in strikeouts (243), strikeouts per 7 innings (10.7), hits allowed per 7 innings (3.13), opposing batting average (.133) and saves (5). Canady struck out 10 or more batters 14 times, walking only 25 batters in 158.2 innings pitched.
Canady becomes a two-time All-Pac-12 First Team selection and eight time Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week selection, and earns All-Defensive Team honors for the first time in her career.
So. Emily Jones | First Team All-Conference
Emily Jones earned a spot on the First Team for the first time in her career, posting a breakout season in her second year on The Farm. A former infielder, Jones made the change to center field this season and has been dynamic for the Card. Jones led the team in hitting at a .373 clip, posting a team-high 59 hits. Jones was a menace on the basepaths, scoring 30 times while stealing 15 bases on 15 attempts.
Jones started every game for Stanford, and her 16-game hitting streak in April was the longest by a member of the Cardinal since 2011.
So. Taryn Kern | Second Team All-Conference
In her first season with Stanford, Kern has posted a historic season at the plate. The sophomore transfer has led the Cardinal in OPS at a whopping 1.049, thanks to her 47 walks to tie a program single-season record. Kern has hit the ball hard too, leading the team in slugging at a .539 clip. Her seven home runs are the third-most on the team, and her 37 runs scored pace the team.
Kern picks up All-Pac-12 honors for the first time in her career, but the second baseman is not new to conference accolades. Last season at Indiana, Kern was named Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Year.
Sr. Regan Krause | Second Team All-Conference
Regan Krause was dominant in her senior season with the Cardinal, picking up 20 wins in 32 starts. The native of Pontiac, Ill. finished with a 2.36 ERA in 133.2 innings, including seven complete games and three shutouts. Krause moved into the program's all-time top 10 in career strikeouts (321) and wins (47) this season.
Krause makes an All-Pac-12 team for the second-straight season, after earning a spot on the Third Team last year.
So. Kyra Chan | Third Team All-Conference
After a slow start to the non-conference schedule, Kyra Chan was arguably Stanford's best hitter in Pac-12 play in a breakout season for the San Diego native. The outfielder paced the Card with a .396 average in conference play, bringing her season average to .315 - still good for the second-highest on the team. Chan drove in 18 RBI on the season, legged out three triples and led all qualified Card hitters with just six strikeouts in 108 at bats.
The conference honors are the first of Chan's career, after the sophomore appeared in just 28 games last season.
Sr. Aly Kaneshiro | Third Team All-Conference
Aly Kaneshiro adds a Third Team All-Pac-12 selection to her resume, after an elite season at and behind the plate for the Cardinal. The senior led the team in home runs with 10, moving her into the program's top-10 list with 25 in her career. Kaneshiro's 87 total bases and 35 RBI both led the team.
In 173 at bats, Kaneshiro hit 10 home runs and struck out just eight times. Kaneshiro's .843 OPS was third on the team, and her defense at catcher was a key part of Stanford's success in an infield that included two freshmen and two sophomores. Kaneshiro is the reigning Rawlings Gold Glove award winner, and was named to last season's All-Defensive team.
Fr. Ava Gall | Third Team All-Conference, All-Freshmen Team
Freshman Ava Gall entered the Cardinal lineup in the second game of the season, and never looked back. The first baseman smacked nine home runs, just one shy of Kaneshiro's team lead. Her 80 total bases and 30 RBI were the second-most on the team, also just shy of Kaneshiro's totals. Gall also drew 19 walks on the year, third most on the team.
In just her third career home game, Gall delivered one of the biggest moments of the season. The freshman crushed a ninth-inning homer, her second of the day, to walk off then-No. 5 Georgia. Gall was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the performance, her first of two such awards.
Fr. Jade Berry | All-Freshmen Team
Rounding out the Cardinal contingent is Jade Berry on the All-Freshmen Team, after the third baseman that started every game for Stanford. Berry's 30 RBI were tied with Gall for second on the team, and her six home runs were tied for the fourth-most on the team. Berry's 27 runs were the fourth-most on the team.
