CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Stanford earned a top five finish in the first of the four ICSA national championships, taking fifth place in the Open Team Race on Saturday. The result is Stanford's sixth straight top-five finish, dating back to 2018.
The Cardinal started strong, earning an 11-4 record in the round of 16 with big victories over eventual champion Roger Williams and eventual runner up Harvard.
Stanford advanced to the round of eight, and claimed two more victories against Brown and Dartmouth to secure fifth overall. The Cardinal finished with a record of 13-9, trailing only Brown (14-8), Yale (15-7), Harvard (17.5-4), and Roger Williams (18-4).
The Cardinal was led by Michelle Lahrkamp, Vanessa Lahrkamp, and Thomas Sitzmann as its skippers over the multi-day event. Ellie Harned, Alice Schmid, and Gwendolyn Donahue took the reins as crews.
Stanford returns to action right away on Sunday, April 28 with the next national championship opportunity. The ICSA Women's Team race will take place in Massachusetts on Sunday and Monday.
