LOS ANGELES - No. 3 Stanford dropped a 15-8 decision to No. 1 UCLA on Saturday afternoon in a matchup of the MPSF's top two teams.
Stanford (14-4, 2-1 MPSF) entered the game having won seven of the last eight meetings, however UCLA (19-0, 4-0 MPSF) remained unbeaten thanks to a strong second half.
Eleanor Facey and Sophia Sanders led the way with multi-goal performances for the Cardinal, which led for nearly the entire first period before the Bruins took their first advantage with 2:51 remaining before halftime.
The Cardinal had its five-game winning streak snapped and lost for only the second time in 15 contests.
Sanders opened the second quarter with her first goal of the game, giving Stanford its largest lead at 4-2 with just over seven minutes to play before halftime.
Facey's goal with 42 seconds left before intermission put the Cardinal back in front 6-5, only to have the Bruins score twice before the buzzer.
UCLA pulled away by scoring four goals in the third period and eight in the second half overall.
Maya Avital finished with five saves.
Stanford plays its final three regular-season matches at home, beginning on Saturday, April 6 against USC (12 p.m.).
