Cardinal Downs Ducks

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 23 Stanford improved to 2-0 in Pac-12 play on Saturday afternoon, taking down conference foe Oregon 18-8 at Cagan Stadium. The win was the Cardinal's 17th straight victory over the Ducks.

Stanford improves to 6-3 on the season while Oregon falls to 6-3 and 0-2 in conference matches.

Stanford played a complete game against the Ducks, using a combination of strong offensive and defensive efforts to secure the victory. The Cardinal scored at least four goals in each quarter while holding the visitors to only four goals in each half.

Sarah Jaques led the way offensively, tallying five goals and three assists for a game-high eight points. Aliya Polisky and Jordyn Case each recorded a hat trick as well while Ailish Kelly and Jay Browne both scored twice. Browne also added a game high four assists.

Annabel Frist, Rylee Bouvier, and Peep Williams rounded out the scoring with one goal each.

Defensively, Stanford caused problems for the Ducks all game long. The Cardinal forced 14 of Oregon's 22 turnovers on the day thanks in part to three caused turnovers each from Madison McPherson and Olivia Rose.

The Cardinal also led the draw control battle 17-15. Annabel Frist had 15 draw controls, her sixth game this season with double digit controls.

Stanford's defense limited Oregon to only 21 shots, including 14 on target. Of those on goal, Lucy Pearson made six saves and recorded a save percentage of .429.

As a team, Stanford tallied a season high 52 shots and 40 shots on goal. The Cardinal was also 3-4 on free position shots, a season high .750 free position shot percentage.

Stanford will look to keep the momentum rolling in Pac-12 play as Arizona State comes to The Farm next Saturday, March 30.
