STANFORD, Calif. - Five Cardinal are headed to Kansas City, Missouri for the NCAA Championships, held March 21-23 at the T-Mobile Center.
Pac-12 runner-up Daniel Cardenas is the highest-seeded Cardinal, earning the No. 6 seed in the 157-pound bracket for a second straight season. The sophomore is 24-6 on the season and opens the tournament against No. 27 seed Sonny Santiago of North Carolina (15-8).
Making his second appearance at the national tournament, sophomore Nico Provo (18-6) received the No. 14 seed at 125 pounds. He will meet the No. 19 seed Jett Strickenberger of West Virginia (20-6) in the opening round.
Senior Nick Stemmet (28-8), who is making his third appearance at the NCAA Championships, is the No. 18 seed at 197 pounds and will wrestle No. 15 seed Max Shaw of North Carolina (19-5) in the first round.
The Pac-12 runner-up at 165 pounds, redshirt freshman Hunter Garvin (20-9) was awarded the No. 20 seed for his first postseason appearance. He will have a rematch with Pac-12 champion Joseph Bianchi of Little Rock (22-3) in his opening match in Kansas City.
Jaden Abas (16-7), a 2021 All-American, earned the No. 26 seed at 149 pounds and will begin the tournament against No. 7 seed Tyler Kasak of Penn State (15-3).
Stanford has qualified at least five wrestlers to the NCAA championships for 11 consecutive seasons - the longest such streak in program history.
