STANFORD, Calif. – Redshirt senior Jaden Abas has been selected the Pac-12 Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced today.
The award, which is presented in each of the 24 sports the Pac-12 sponsors, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.
A native of San Diego, Abas graduated in 2023 with a 3.80 cumulative GPA in psychology. He is working towards his master's degree in sociology, boasting a 3.91 GPA. He is a three-time NWCA Scholar All-American and a three-time Pac-12 Honor Roll selection.
A 2023 ACE participant, Abas traveled to South Africa to contribute to self-empowerment and sustainable development projects in communities around Cape Town. He took part in educational and sports workshops, and supported local outreach and educational awareness programs on the trip. This summer, Abas will participate in a Wu Tsai Performance Alliance Research Program at Stanford, studying peak performance, with the goal of enabling all people to achieve optimal health and well-being.
The redshirt senior carries a career record of 71-28, including a 28-8 mark in duals. A three-time Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week, Abas was the 2021 Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year. A 2021 Pac-12 champion, he is now a four-time NCAA qualifier. In 2021 he became just the second freshman NCAA All-American in program history.
A team captain, Abas is the ninth Cardinal to be named Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year since the awards inception in 2007-08. He joins Tanner Gardner (2008), Jake Johnson (2010), Nick Amuchastegui (2012), Peter Galli (2017), Nathan Butler (2018), Paul Fox (2019), Nathan Traxler (2021) and Shane Griffith (2023) as Stanford recipients.
