Bryson Women's Results Opens in a new window Top-9 Invite Results Opens in a new window

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Stanford began its spring campaign with two decisive regatta victories over the weekend in the Bryson Women's and the Top-9 Invite.

"The team worked well together and represented themselves well at home," said head sailing coach Chris Klevan. "The spring season goes by fast and it's important to lay a good foundation."

In the Bryson Women's, the Cardinal held the lowest scores in both the A and B divisions after day one and didn't look back. Stanford repeated in the top spots of both divisions on day two, comfortably taking the regatta win.

Sophie Fisher and Shay Wood controlled the A boat throughout the regatta while Alice Schmid and Grace Austin were at the helm of the B boat. Stanford finished the event with only 55 points, 77 points ahead of second-place Hawaii with 132.

The Top-9 Invite had a similar result to the Bryson Women's. The Cardinal finished with the event's best A division score of 49 points, 21 points clear of Hawaii in second place.

Stanford's B boat finished second in its division with 78 points, just four behind UC Santa Barbara. The Cardinal's overall total of 127 led the way, 68 points ahead of UCSB in second with 192.

Thomas Sitzmann and Vanessa Lahrkamp split the skipper duties in the A division, joining up with Gwendolyn Donahue in the crew position. Reade Decker and Alexis Young were in charge of the B boat throughout the entire regatta.

The Cardinal has a weekend off before returning to action on March 2 in the Phoebe Corkran King Women's Team Race in Charleston, S.C. and the McIntyre Team Race in Redwood City, California.
