Saturday Matinee Meet at No. 19 Oregon State

  • Stanford women's gymnastics heads back on the road for its next two meets, first meeting No. 19 Oregon State in Corvallis for a Saturday matinee meet Feb. 17.
  • The matchup between the Cardinal and the Beavers is set for an 11 a.m. PT start and will be streamed on Pac- 12 Insider (Oregon State Live Stream).
  • Despite matching its season-best team total, the Cardinal was edged by No. 20 Arizona State Friday, Feb. 9, falling 196.975-196.875 inside Maples Pavilion. Stanford's performance was fueled by a season-best vault rotation, scoring a team total of 49.200, and the program's first meet in the 2024 season with all team event scores passing the 49.000 threshold. Fifth year Chloe Widner won a share of the bars title with a season-best matching 9.950 while sophomore Porsche Trinidad earned a part of the beam title with her career-best score of 9.925.
  • Stanford's underclassmen have stepped up in the 2024 season, with gymnasts in their first or second year currently contributing 13 of the Cardinal's 24 competition routines (vs. Arizona State). On average, 11 of Stanford's routines in a meet in 2024 have come from a freshman or sophomore.
  • Stanford posted two big team scores during the week of Feb. 5, aided by 16 career-best or matching performances from the Cardinal. Friday night against Arizona State, the Cardinal saw seven of these efforts including Trinidad's event-title-winning beam effort. On vault, Amanda Zeng secured a new career-best effort of 9.825, and on floor, both Victoria Cluck (Stanford debut) and Ira Alexeeva (season debut) marked their top collegiate performances of 9.800 and 9.875, respectively. Rounding out the career-best efforts was sophomore Ashley Carter, who marked a new collegiate-best on beam with a 9.775. Both sophomore Taralyn Nguyen and Brenna Neault matched their career-best scores on vault en route to the program's season-best vault total.
  • After Saturday's meet in Corvallis, the Cardinal will have enough meet scores to calculate its first NQS (National Qualifying Score) of the 2024 season. NQS is calculated by averaging six of the team's meets, dropping the highest score. Three of the scores within the average must be from road meets.
  • Fifth year Chloe Widner continued her staggering streak of scoring at least one 9.900-or-better in every meet dating back to Feb. 4, 2023 on Friday. Her season-best matching 9.950 on bars against Arizona State brought her total to 21 efforts above the 9.900 threshold in that period.
  • Sophomore Claire Dean has led off on every event in each meet this season, a role the Piedmont, Calif. excels at. In every meet donning the Cardinal leo (18 total meets), Dean has led off the Cardinal's lineups on at least three events (and has led off on all four events for the last eight meets).
  • Fellow sophomore Porsche Trinidad has made her second season at Stanford count. Returning from an ACL injury in her freshman year, Trinidad has set a new career-best on beam in every appearance so far in 2024 with her most recent score (9.925) up .125 from her Stanford debut (9.800).
