Two Rounds Down in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. - Stanford men's golf shot 2-over par in their first season of spring competition, as they sit in 17th place after day one of the National Invitational Tournament.

The Cardinal struggled in the opening round of the event, shooting a collective 7-over 295 in the first 18 holes but found its stride in the second trip around Omni Tucson National, gaining five strokes back in a shortened second round.

Play was suspended due to darkness, leaving 22 holes for Stanford to try and climb up the leaderboards when action resumes tomorrow morning.

Senior Barclay Brown paced the Cardinal on Monday, shooting 2-under in both rounds of play with a team-leading eight birdies and four bogeys on the day. Brow currently sits tied for 25th in the individual standings, nine strokes off the lead.

Jake Beber-Frankel was as consistent as it gets through 32 holes as he remained at even par at the conclusion of day one. Karl Vilips had a tale of two rounds during Monday's play, stumbling to a 4-over 76 in his opening trip around the course before finding a rhythm in round two to gain two strokes back before action was suspended.

Dean Greyserman and Ethan Gao each tallied a 5-over in round one to round out the Stanford rotation, and now sit 1-under and 6-over, respectively, as they look to close out their second rounds tomorrow morning.

Action resumes tomorrow morning with a 8:30 a.m. shotgun start and will maintain continous play straight into the third and final round of action.
