STANFORD, Calif. – In the Stanford Regional final, the No. 1 seed Cardinal fell to No. 2 seed Texas, 25-16, 15-25, 25-19, 25-22, Saturday, at Maples Pavilion.
Stanford (29-4) came up short in the regional final for a second straight year. The Cardinal is now 18-2 in the NCAA Tournament at home under Kevin Hambly, The Montag Family Director of Women's Volleyball.
Texas (26-4) out hit Stanford .342 to .278, and racked up 12.5 blocks to just 3.0 by the Cardinal. The Cardinal was outhit by its opponent for just the third time this season – all three were losses.
Opposite Kendall Kipp and outside hitter Elia Rubin were named to the NCAA Stanford Regional All-Tournament Team. Rubin led Stanford with 17 kills on .333 hitting, nine digs and two aces, while Kipp tallied 16 kills, eight digs and a block.
Setter Kami Miner finished with 38 assists, eight digs, two kills and two aces. Libero Elena Oglivie had a double-double with a career-high 12 assists and 11 digs.
Outside hitter Caitie Baird registered 14 kills, four digs and two blocks, while middle blocker McKenna Vicini hit 1.000 (4-0-4) and had two blocks and a dig. Middle blocker Sami Francis finished with four kills, a dig and a block.
Texas was led by the region's Most Outstanding Player Madisen Skinner, who recorded 24 kills on .383 hitting, six digs and two aces. Middle blocker Asjia O'Neal and setter Ella Swindle were also selected to the all-tournament team.
Stanford is now 22-10 all-time against Texas, including 7-3 in the NCAA Tournament.
Arizona State's Mary Shroll and Tennessee's Morgahn Fingall were also announced as all-tournament selections.
Stanford won its 21st Pac-12 championship and 24th conference title overall in 2023. The Cardinal has appeared in 42 of 43 NCAA Tournaments.
