STANFORD, Calif. – As a team, Stanford finished 16th nationally on the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American list, the organization announced Friday.
The Cardinal boasts a 3.4236 team GPA. Drexel (3.6117) topped the list, while Cleveland State (3.5464) was second and Wisconsin (3.5197) was third.
Representing Stanford as individual Scholar All-Americans were redshirt senior Shane Griffith (communication MA), redshirt junior Jaden Abas (psychology), junior Nick Stemmet (science, technology and society) and freshmen Brook Byers and Nico Provo.
Harvard, Minnesota, Ohio State and South Dakota State led the nation with eight individual NWCA Scholar All-Americans.
Griffith (165 pounds) is a four-time honoree, while Abas (149 pounds) and Stemmet (197 pounds) earn their third career honors. Byers (184 pounds) and Provo (125 pounds) are being recognized for the first time.
The Cardinal boasted the most individual honorees in the Pac-12 Conference. Stanford and Arizona State (26th) were the only Pac-12 institutions listed in the Scholar All-America Team top 30 list.
Awarded annually, the NWCA All-Academic Team contained 291 student-athletes from 73 different schools in 2022-23.
