STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 9 Stanford Cardinal rallied from down 4-1 in the sixth inning, scoring four times in the seventh, to defeat the Oregon State Beavers 5-4 Sunday.
The victory sealed Stanford's first sweep over Oregon State since taking all three in Corvallis in 2010, and it's first sweep over the Beavers (12-8, 1-5 Pac-12) at home since 2001.
Junior Drew Dowd (2-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Stanford (13-5, 4-2 Pac-12). The southpaw went three shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing no walks and striking out four.
Junior Brandt Pancer also made an impact on the mound for the Cardinal, throwing a scoreless ninth inning while striking out one to record his third career save.
The Cardinal retired the final 15 Beaver hitters in the game, as Dowd and Pancer combined to retire 12 straight in relief of Joey Dixon.
Dixon was strong in the Sunday start, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts over five innings.
Junior Eddie Park led the way offensively for the Cardinal, going 3-for-3 in the ballgame with a walk and two RBIs. Junior Carter Graham had the biggest hit of the afternoon, lacing a two-out, three-RBI double in the seventh inning to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 lead.
Freshman Jimmy Nati also chipped in, going 2-for-4 and making a handful of stellar defensive plays at third base.
