Three-Time All-American

TULSA, Okla. - Shane Griffith earned his third straight NCAA All-America honor with a win in the Round of 12 at the NCAA Championships, Friday, at the BOK Center.

Griffith joins Nick Amuchastegui ('12) and Tanner Gardner ('08) as the only three-time NCAA All-Americans in program history. The Westwood, New Jersey, native was also named an NWCA First Team All-American in 2020 when the NCAA Championships were canceled due to COVID.

The No. 9 seed at 165 pounds, Griffith dropped his quarterfinal match to top-seeded David Carr of Iowa State, 2-1. He was in late on a shot in the third, but was unable to convert before time expired. It was just the second loss in the NCAA Tournament of his career.

The redshirt senior bounced back with a 6-2 decision over No. 4 seed Julian Ramirez of Cornell in the Round of 12 and advanced to the consolation semifinals with a 3-2 decision over No. 7 seed Michael Caliendo III of North Dakota State - avenging a loss from Jan. 12 at Stanford.

Griffith will face No. 11 seed Cameron Amine of Michigan on Saturday for the right to wrestle for third place. He is now 86-10 in his Stanford career.

Daniel Cardenas, the No. 6 seed at 157 pounds, also lost his quarterfinal match, dropping a 6-4 decision to No. 3 seed Peyton Robb of Nebraska. In the Round of 12, Cardenas fell in sudden victory, 6-4, to No. 8 seed Ed Scott of NC State. The true freshman finished one win shy of All-America status and ends his first season with the Cardinal at 24-3.

Redshirt senior Tyler Eischens, the No. 27 seed at 174 pounds, saw his Stanford career come to an end in the morning session on Friday. The Anoka, Minnesota native finishes with a career record of 69-34.

The consolation semifinals begin at 8 a.m. PT on ESPNU with the third, fifth and seventh place matches following in the morning session.
