Washington Tops Stanford in Seattle

SEATTLE – Opening its weekend swing in the Emerald City, Stanford men's basketball was tripped up by Washington, 86-69, on Thursday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.

Spencer Jones led the way with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals, while Max Murrell and Ryan Agarwal were in double figures with 10 points apiece. Harrison Ingram tallied nine points and nine rebounds to go with a pair of assists.

Stanford won the battle on the glass, 39-35, and had 18 offensive rebounds. Spencer Jones led the team with four offensive boards, while James Keefe and Michael Jones secured three apiece.

The Cardinal jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first half after baskets from Maxime Raynaud, Michael O'Connell and Spencer Jones, but Washington rallied to tie the game at 15-15 seven minutes later. Agarwal and Murrell connected on triples late in the period, but the Huskies carried a 47-29 lead into the intermission.

Stanford outscored Washington by one in the second half, 40-39, but could not pull closer than 14 points in the second frame. Michael Jones scored seven straight points to lead a late Cardinal charge, but the Huskies held strong to secure the result.

The Cardinal sees a quick turnaround to its contest at Washington State on Saturday, Jan. 14. The action tips off at 5 p.m. on Pac-12 Network.
