Stanford Hosts ITA Super Regionals

- The fall tennis slate has made its way to the Farm, as Stanford hosts the ITA Northwest Super Regionals over the weekend, Oct. 21-24. The Cardinal will have six singles players and four doubles teams in action.
- Samir Banerjee, Nishesh Basavareddy, Aryan Chaudhary, Filip Kolasinski, Anders Matta and Neel Rajesh will compete in singles and doubles, while Max Basing and Isaac Gorelik will be in action in doubles only. By virtue of his top-four finish at the ITA All-American Championship, Basing has automatically qualified for the ITA Fall Championships, held Nov. 2-6 in San Diego. The competing student-athletes are vying to advance to the national event next month.
- Max Basing and Nishesh Basavareddy took the nation by storm in the opening national tournament, as Stanford joined Georgia in having two of the top-five finishers. Basing went 4-1 to advance to the semifinals of the All-American Championships, while Basavareddy posted a 7-1 mark to win the consolation bracket and take fifth place after originally opening the event in the qualifying rounds. Banerjee also earned his first collegiate win in the tournament, while Neel Rajesh and Filip Kolasinski have four and three wins, respectively, from events in California over the last three weeks.
- Stanford returns many of its key performers from a year ago, led by All-American Arthur Fery and All-Pac-12 honoree Max Basing. Fery was ranked as high as No. 1 in the country last season in singles and No. 6 in doubles, going 24-8 in singles and 26-10 in doubles a year ago. Basing was one of the top freshmen in the conference in 2021-22, going 23-4 in singles and 15-10 in doubles en route to ITA Northwest Region Rookie of the Year accolades.
- Basing starts the fall ranked No. 40 in singles, while Stanford has two freshmen ranked in the ITA Newcomer category: Nishesh Basavareddy (No. 2) and Samir Banerjee (No. 9).
- Stanford went 19-6 last season, including a perfect 10-0 record at Taube Family Tennis Center. Stanford earned a bid to its 14th consecutive NCAA Tournament, traveling to 14th seeded Harvard for a pair of victories to advance to the Super Regional.
- Paul Goldstein is in his ninth season as the Taube Family Director of Men's Tennis. Goldstein’s teams have posted a 131-55 record with a national ranking and a berth in the NCAA Championships in each of his seasons at the helm.
