STANFORD, Calif. - Matt Kubeck has been named an assistant coach for the men's water polo program, announced Wednesday by the recently appointed Dunlevie Family Director of Men's Water Polo Brian Flacks.
Kubeck is no stranger to Flacks, as the two worked together at Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles. Kubeck served as the assistant for both the boys and girls teams since 2016 and was the head coach of the girls' program from 2019-21, winning a handful of championships with each.
"I am incredibly grateful to be joining a program with as much winning history as there is at Stanford University," said Kubeck. "I'd like to thank Brian for allowing me this opportunity and we look forward to continuing the history of success that exists on The Farm. Go Card!"
Similar to Flacks, Kubeck also worked at LA Premier Water Polo Club, spending time as both head and assistant coach at various levels with some of the highest-rated prep talent in the country. Kubeck has also spent time working with the USA National Team, serving as an assistant coach with the men's youth national team since 2018 and helping earn a silver medal at the 2019 World University Games.
"I am thrilled to have Coach Kubeck join the Stanford Men's Water Polo family," commented Flacks. "I have had the opportunity to work with Matt the past six years at Harvard-Westlake, and as a result, have firsthand knowledge of the incredible coach and person he is. Matt's extensive knowledge of the sport and his level of dedication make him one of the best young coaches in the country. We are lucky to have him on our team."
From the Los Angeles area, Kubeck earned his bachelor's degree in communication from Long Beach State, graduating in 2012. He was a two-year starting goalkeeper with the 49ers after graduating from El Segundo High School.
