LOS ANGELES - A late rally from the Bruins doomed No. 3 Stanford on Saturday afternoon, as No. 2 UCLA got past the Cardinal 8-6.

The loss drops Stanford to 13-3 and 0-1 after its first MPSF contest of the season.

No. 3 Stanford 6 - No. 2 UCLA 8

The Cardinal came out strong on both sides of the pool, scoring the game's first three goals on shots from Quinn Woodhead, Walker Seymour and Riley Pittman. Defensively, Nolan Krutonog delivered big saves as Stanford refused to allow any rhythm to UCLA.

The Bruins slowly worked their way back into the game, cutting Stanford's lead to 4-3, but a looping shot from Tyler Abramson, his second of the day, gave the Cardinal a 5-3 advantage at halftime.

UCLA scored the second half's first two goals before Stanford reclaimed the lead on a goal from Larsen Weigle, but that would be the end of the offense for the Cardinal. The Bruins put the clamps down, shutting out Stanford in the fourth period and earning the go-ahead goal on a penalty shot with just over a minute left.

Krutonog finished with a career-high 13 saves.
