DURHAM, N.H. – Opening the final weekend of the regular season in the America East, Stanford field hocked was defeated in close contest to New Hampshire, 3-1, on Friday afternoon. The Cardinal moves to 3-8 on the season, and 2-5 in America East play.
Molly Redgrove found the back of the net for the second time this season, and for the second-straight outing, while Megan Frost earned her second assist of the campaign. Freshman Cara Sambeth played in goal for the Cardinal, marking the first time Stanford has played a goalkeeper this season.
Stanford doubled the Wildcats in shots, eight to four, and forced six saves out of the New Hampshire netminder, but the home team struck first 3:14 into the contest to take an early lead. The Cardinal responded off the penalty corner when Redgrove fired home after a perfect feed from Frost in the 20th minute. New Hampshire was able to regain its advantage later in the quarter, and take a 2-1 lead into the intermission.
The Cardinal pulled the goalkeeper with just under seven minutes to play in search of the equalizer, but New Hampshire took advantage on the penalty corner to cement the 3-1 win.
Stanford closes the regular season on Sunday at UMass Lowell. The action gets underway at 10 a.m. PT.
